Between the hurricanes, tropical storms, and blizzards in the last year, our homes have weathered a lot, especially our roofs. Here are 10 of the hardest-hit.

#1) How Long is That Going to Last?

Sometimes it seems like one storm just follows another. In this photo, you can see that the roof, damaged from a previous storm, is covered with a blue tarp to temporarily protect it. But you can also see from the sky that another storm is on its way – will the tarp stay effective in the rain and wind?

#2) I Didn’t Need Shade That Badly

Have you ever wanted to sit outside, but wished you had some extra shade right near the house? After a monsoon, the family that lives in this house will probably never wish that again. In fact, they might opt to ensure that trees are far away from their home going forward.

#3) At Least You’re Not Alone

In this photo, taken in the aftermath of Hurricane Laura, you can clearly see the patches on one roof where shingles have blown off, but you can also see that the rest of the street is a mess. There will be more than one homeowner dealing with roof issues after this.

#4) A Painful Split

This is a photo of storm damage taken near Anniston, Alabama. The roof has just undergone a serious separation. And the tree isn’t doing so well either. Hopefully, the people who own the home are doing better.

#5) Cleaning up the Mess

It’s not just the destruction, it’s the mess. This is another photo made possible by Hurricane Laura and taken in Lake Charles, LA. The hurricane has destroyed the roof of the home pictured, and that’s absolutely the biggest problem, but you can also see by the pile in front what a mess the storm has left to clean up. Imagine having to go around picking up pieces of your own roof from your property!

#6) Maybe it Will Wash Away?

This is a beach house in Guardamar, Spain, damaged after a storm. The roof – what’s left of it – seems to be sagging inward, and large portions of the home appear to have crumbled into dust. On the other hand, it looks so close to the water that you wonder whether the ocean will simply wash the mess away.

#7) Smoke Gets in Your Eyes

Oregon fires didn’t get as much press as the California fires, but a disaster is still a disaster. In this burned-out home, the smoke damage to the roof structure has done damage along with the flames.

#8) That’s Not How Santa is Supposed to Get in

The disaster that damaged this roof left behind a hole right around the chimney. With the snowfall on top, it looks sort of like what might happen if Santa had fallen through the roof instead of making it into the chimney.

#9) Is This Really the Time?

Sure, you can definitely understand how a flood could damage the roof, and of course, you should fix it as soon as possible. But… while the rest of the house is still submerged?
