Keep Your Gutters Flowing This Fall and Winter

Is your home ready for the winter weather? Here’s how to keep it cozy and leak-free this season.

Are you trying to turn over a few new leaves this fall? Fall is the time to get ready for the stormy, rainy winter months. When you’re thinking about preparing your home for the winter weather, consider adding gutter covers and gutter heating to your to-do list for home improvements. Here are a few ways to keep your roof draining and the water flowing freely in your gutters this fall and winter season.

Renew Your Landscaping

As we move into the fall, take a hard look at your landscaping. While trees and shrubs can be prone to fungal infections due to fall pruning, fall is a good time to assess what worked for your garden this year. As the leaves move from the trees into your gutters and onto your roof, consider whether you need to prune that deciduous tree and whether your new plantings are in the right place. Pruning and transplanting next summer can help reduce your landscape maintenance in the future and will set you up beautifully for next fall.

Watch for Warping, Sags and Leaks

Warped, sagging, or leaky gutters won’t perform properly. Before the snow falls, take a look around the outside of your home. Check your gutters thoroughly. If you can, look inside them as well to determine whether there is buckling or leakage, or hire a professional to do so. Make sure that your gutters are well-connected to your downspouts as well.

Perform Regular Maintenance

No matter what type of gutter you have, you’ll need to perform some basic maintenance to ensure that it’s not sagging, warping, or clogging. However, if your gutters are uncovered you’ll need to be more attentive. Take a look into your gutters and remove debris such as sticks and fall leaves that could clog your gutters.

Add a Gutter Cover

If you’re tired of hiring someone to look at your gutters or you feel uncomfortable standing on a ladder, you may consider adding a gutter cover to your home. A gutter cover goes over your gutter and protects it from the leaves and sticks that fall can bring. These covers greatly reduce the amount of debris that enters your gutter system in the first place, preventing clogs and ensuring that water flows freely as the weather gets cooler.

Add Gutter Heating Products

If you live in a place where it gets cold, make sure that you have a way to prevent ice dams this winter. An ice dam is a patch of water that can push under your roofing and move it up as the water freezes, leading to leaks. By adding gutter heat, you’ll prevent ice from forming. This not only keeps your gutters clean, it also prevents roof leaks.

I installed GH on the upper gutters in 2006 & have had the wonderful experience of no problems. I installed Leaf Filter on the lower gutters in 2010. Thru time, grit & leaves collect on the gutter screens & semi-annual cleaning is necessary so water doesn’t overrun the screens. I’m replacing LF w/ GH. GH is as advertised - maintenance-free!!

Lednor recently installed a rolling sun shade on my house. The entire process went very smoothly and I would recommend them and their product to anyone. The salesperson was very professional and was able to answer all my questions. The installers were likewise very good. The job was done in about 2-1/2 hours and they did a very good job cleaning up after themselves. The sunshade is wonderful. I can use my patio in the middle of the day now which I hadn't been able to do. I highly recommend them.

I am very satisfied with my gutter helmet installation. They were here when they said they would be. Work was timely completed and looks great. Installers were very nice and cleaned everything up. The house looks great. The best part - I do not have to clean them out.
