Make Your Sunroom Shine

A gorgeous sunroom can be the hub of your home.

Where do you go in the winter? While some might flock to warm parts of the country like Hawaii or Florida, others take a staycation and visit their sunroom. The sunroom is often the most-loved room in the house. It’s full of light, and it’s warm. How can you keep your sunroom clean and structurally-sound so that it will be ready for the sunroom season?

Keep It Clean

When you’re getting your sunroom ready, the first thing you may notice is that the sun isn’t shining quite as brightly through the windows and skylights. Seasonal moisture, dirt, and debris accumulation can cause the windows of your sunroom to become speckled with soil, pollutants, or algae. Clean those windows with a brush and cleaning solution, and you’ll be able to see clearly once again. If the dirt is really welded on, rent a washer with a brush attachment so that you can add water and brush at the same time.

Remove debris from windows and roofs to make sure that they are free of leaks.

Removing Debris

Accumulations of leaves, needles, and blossoms can keep your sunroom in the dark. Work to remove these with a brush as they fall, and conduct annual maintenance to brush or wash away all of the little bits and pieces that have accumulated on your windows. Work on your drains and in the areas around your windows as well, so that you can ensure that damp debris isn’t sitting in those cracks accumulating water or attracting pests such as nesting wasps.

Checking Your Structure

After you’ve finished cleaning your sunroom, check it for leaks, peeling paint, or areas of rot. Fallen leaves or simple dirt can disguise potential trouble spots. If you see an area that may have a leak or be a bit rotten, fix it as soon as possible. With a room made primarily out of windows, you want to ensure that your seals are structurally-sound so that you can have many more years of enjoyment from your sunroom.

An Inside Job

Once you’ve cleaned the outside of the sunroom, make sure that the inside shines as well. From wiping prints off the windows to checking and replacing sun-worn pillowcases and neglected plants, spruce up your room and get it ready for the season.

Maintain Your Drainage

A great gutter and drain system can really benefit your sunroom. A sunroom can experience algae growth if the drainage system is clogged or damaged, and this algae is difficult to remove from your windows. A room with many skylights is also prone to drainage concerns where the skylights are sealed, and water backups or debris accumulation next to the roof can lead to leaks later on. By maintaining your drainage system, you’re taking care of your roof, your windows, and the entire structure of your home.

Are you trying to ensure that your roofs, gutters, and skylights stay free of leaks and clear of debris? Contact Harry Helmet. We’ll help you install gutters with guards that will prevent debris from accumulating, keeping your roofing safe from backups and overflows all year long.

I installed GH on the upper gutters in 2006 & have had the wonderful experience of no problems. I installed Leaf Filter on the lower gutters in 2010. Thru time, grit & leaves collect on the gutter screens & semi-annual cleaning is necessary so water doesn’t overrun the screens. I’m replacing LF w/ GH. GH is as advertised - maintenance-free!!

Lednor recently installed a rolling sun shade on my house. The entire process went very smoothly and I would recommend them and their product to anyone. The salesperson was very professional and was able to answer all my questions. The installers were likewise very good. The job was done in about 2-1/2 hours and they did a very good job cleaning up after themselves. The sunshade is wonderful. I can use my patio in the middle of the day now which I hadn't been able to do. I highly recommend them.

I am very satisfied with my gutter helmet installation. They were here when they said they would be. Work was timely completed and looks great. Installers were very nice and cleaned everything up. The house looks great. The best part - I do not have to clean them out.
