Baltimore, MD — March 13, 2012 – Americans anticipating tax refunds this year are more likely than in years past to invest their refund check into home improvements. A survey of 1,000 people by TD Ameritrade found that 63% of respondents expecting a tax refund this year plan to invest at least part of the money they get back from the IRS. In another study of 8,700 people by the National Retail Federation, respondents indicated that they are less likely to use their refund to splurge on a vacation or high-end item than in years past. In 2011, the average tax refund was more than $3,000.
